Here are the 25 most popular Hinge Prompts and how to answer them.

Prompt #11: My Greatest Strength

This is a really interesting prompt because it gives you an opportunity while also setting a little bit of a trap. This is a prompt for a more confident person. You just have to be sure that you don’t cross the line between confidence and arrogance. If you start to sound too full of yourself, you are just going to drive people away.

DO:

Try to think outside the box. You aren’t trying to get a job here, you are trying to connect with another human being. So, strengths like reliability, loyalty, honesty, or even punctuality are going to be lost on readers.

Instead, think about strengths that make you unique in comparison to the people around you. You can even lean a little bit into humor here, but I would strongly avoid making up an answer just to be funny.

This is one of the more serious prompts, so make sure you give a real answer if you are going to use it.

DON’T:

Aside from not making stuff up, and not treating this prompt like you are trying to convince someone to hire you, this prompt gives you a pretty broad brush to paint with.

If there’s something you are really proud of about yourself, this is the place to use it. Just make sure you do not exaggerate it.

You might be able to fake it till you make it in a new job, but a new romantic partner is not going to be fooled for very long if you can’t live up to your promises.

Prompt #12: me is like

This is honestly another one of the prompts that isn’t my favorite. It tends to push people into a very sales-driven statement, or something that is only written to try and attract people with a laugh. The problem with the former is that no one wants to hear your sales pitch. The problem with the latter is that, when it does work, it very often leads to false positives and conversations that die out well before you reach the .

DO:

Focus on imagery. This is a good opportunity to paint a picture that tells a story. If you are going to answer this prompt, think about what you actually think dating you is like. What can you compare that to in the world around you?

If I had to answer this prompt for myself, it would be something like – “Dating me is like having a steaming bowl of stew on a cold day.

I may have taken a while to come together, but there’s complexity, surprises, and even a few potatoes if you dig deep enough.”

DON’T:

Oversell. I see a ton of people who answer this prompt with ridiculous things like “Dating me is like the feeling you get on Christmas morning when you realize Santa got you everything on your list.” Even when answers like this get a little chuckle from the reader, they still usually pass you by.

People like confidence, but they don’t want to feel like they’d never be able to love you as much as you already love yourself.

Prompt #13: I’m convinced that

This is another potential trap. There’s a ton of great opportunities to spark an excellent first conversation with this prompt, but only if you keep it light. If you take this prompt into a heavy or negative direction, it’s going to reflect poorly on you and kill a lot of great opportunities for matches.

DO:

Think about the things in your life that you believe, but about which not everyone agrees with you.

It could be an idea about the ancient world, a unique food concoction that you believe is the best food on earth, a hot take about something pop-culture related, or even something on the sillier side like where you believe giraffes should wear their neckties.

DON’T:

Get political. Seriously. Just don’t. I get it. It’s an election year, but don’t let that get in the way of your ability to connect with people. I don’t care if it’s conspiracy theories, candidates, causes, or vaccines.

This is just not the place for it. Even when you connect with people on these topics, it’s a that usually comes from a pretty angry place. It doesn’t matter which side of the aisle you are on.

Prompt #14: I want someone who

This prompt is one of the biggest traps on the list, so be careful if you decide to go with this one. The biggest challenge with this prompt is that it pushes you towards a heavier answer, or towards a wishlist of qualities. Hinge is at its best when you use it to start a conversation, not when you use it to try and have a big conversation.

DO:

If you insist on using this prompt, there are a couple of things that you need to do. First, just pick one thing. Second, instead of thinking about the laundry list of qualities that make up a good partner, think about something positive.

Ideally, it should be situational. That way, the people who read it will have the chance to project themselves onto the situation and see if they can connect with it.

DON’T:

Whatever you do, don’t focus on things that were lacking in past relationships. No matter how you try to phrase it, it will come off as if you are sharing baggage.

That’s not how you get a conversation going with someone you like. Also, avoid long lists. They make you sound demanding, and they are no fun to read.

You have small windows with each prompt to make an impression and get a conversation with someone. If the first thing they see is your relationship wishlist, they are going to turn and run in the other direction.

Prompt #15: Unusual skills

This is a great prompt, but it’s definitely not a prompt for everyone. Some people don’t have any unusual skills, and there’s nothing wrong with that. However, if you do have a weird talent or ability, this can be an excellent jumping-off point for a conversation.

DO:

Feel free to show off that weird skill or ability that gets you free drinks at the bar, or that always blows your friends’ minds when you show it off to them.

It doesn’t have to be anything super fancy. For example, my unique skill is that I can identify almost any famous person’s voice in a commercial or animated film.

DON’T:

Make anything up. The last thing that people want is to start a conversation with you about a unique talent they found interesting, only to find out that you lied because you thought it would get you more matches.

Also, and this should go without saying, don’t make it sexual. Flirty can be fun, but an overtly sexual profile is going to make people think that you are immature.
